The AlienBees B400 is a self-contained studio flash unit designed by Paul C. Buff, Inc. It's a popular choice among photographers—whether you're a student, hobbyist, or seasoned professional. Here's what you need to know about this versatile monolight:

1. Power and Variability:

   • The B400 offers 160 watt-seconds (Ws) of power.
   • You can adjust the output in 1/32-stop increments, providing a total of 6 f-stops of variability. This flexibility allows you to fine-tune your lighting precisely.

2. Recycle Time:

   • At full power, the B400 recycles in just 0.5 seconds. That means you won't miss crucial moments during rapid shooting.
   • Even at lower power settings, the recycle time remains impressively quick.

3. Flash Duration:

   • The B400 delivers consistent flash durations for freezing action. At full power, the t.5 duration is 1/1600 second, while at 1/32 power, it's 1/3000 second.
   • For t.1 duration (which measures the flash's peak intensity), it's 1/2000 second at full power and 1/1000 second at 1/32 power.

4. Sync and Trigger:

   • The B400 comes with a 15-foot sync cord for connecting to your camera's PC sync terminal.
   • If your camera lacks a PC sync terminal, you might need a hot shoe adapter to use this cable.

5. Modeling Lamp:

   • The modeling lamp is a 150W maximum bulb that helps you visualize the light before taking the shot.
   • If you choose to use an LED bulb for the modeling lamp, ensure that it's dimmable.
