Sony Laowa Nanomorph 50mm T2.4 1.5x S35 Anamorphic Lens (E Mount)

Great little anamorphic 50mm that is just shy of full frame. On the sony sensors you end up cropping the sides to get a cinema scope aspect ratio anyway so there's barely any vignetting with A7sIII. Zero on A7r5 since it crops it's full frame ever so slightly in video.

Sony Laowa Nanomorph 50mm T2.4 1.5x S35 Anamorphic Lens.

  1. Overview:

    • The Nanomorph 50mm T2.4 is part of the Laowa Cinema Lenses lineup, designed by Venus Optics. It's an anamorphic lens specifically crafted for Super35 sensors.
    • Despite its compact size, this lens packs a punch in terms of creative possibilities. It weighs less than 14 ounces, making it ideal for setups where weight matters, such as gimbals, drones, and even helmets!
    • The constant 1.5x squeeze ratio ensures that you get those beautiful anamorphic flares and bokeh without any "mumps" (distortions) that sometimes plague anamorphic lenses.
  2. Key Features:

    • Focal Length: The Nanomorph 50mm provides a versatile focal length of 50mm, which is great for capturing a wide range of scenes.
    • Mount: It comes with an E-mount, making it compatible with Sony mirrorless cameras.
    • Aperture Range: The lens offers an aperture range from T2.4 to T22. This wide range allows for creative depth of field control, from deep focus to creamy bokeh.
    • Iris Blades: With 13 iris blades, you'll achieve beautifully smooth out-of-focus areas.
    • Flare Options: You can choose from three different flare options: Amber, Blue, or Silver. These add character and uniqueness to your shots.
    • Close Focusing Distance: The relatively close minimum focusing distance gives you more flexibility in composition and adds depth to your images.
  3. Comparison: Spherical vs. Anamorphic:

    • Spherical lenses provide a straightforward, undistorted look, while anamorphic lenses like the Nanomorph introduce that classic cinematic widescreen aspect ratio (2.4:1).
    • The Nanomorph avoids the "mumps" issue, ensuring your subjects stay proportional.
  4. Other Focal Lengths:

    • The Nanomorph series also includes an 80mm T2.4 1.5x lens, which gives you a different perspective.
    • And if you're curious, there's a 35mm T2.8 1.5x version too!
  5. Mount Options:

    • The Nanomorph lenses come with user-interchangeable mounts. For the E-mount version, you're all set. But if you need PL or EF mounts, they've got you covered¹².

Remember, this lens isn't just about technical specs; it's about storytelling. Whether you're shooting indie films, documentaries, or creative projects, the Nanomorph 50mm T2.4 adds that cinematic flair you've been craving. Happy shooting!
